Files in Build PlanReader

What Files does

Files is a place in Build PlanReader, at the top of the pie. It shows your company’s files on this computer by stage (opportunities, sales, jobs) or as the real folder tree, and gives each file a plain name.

  • Plain names on screen. A file on disk keeps its own name unless a naming rule someone confirmed renames it. Files you received, and anything already sent, always keep their names.
  • Not filed. Loose files, in Downloads for example, wait in a drawer until you file them into a job folder. Filing moves a file; it never makes a copy.
  • One copy per computer. When the same file sits in several places, Files keeps one copy of its bytes on this computer and frees the space the others take.
  • Won jobs. When a deal is won, its job folder is made from your company’s template, and the bid’s files show under the job without being copied.
  • Your company’s own way. Folder templates, stages, job numbers and company naming rules come from your company’s settings, confirmed by an admin. Anyone can keep personal rules for files they file themselves.

Files works with Dropbox, OneDrive and SharePoint, Box, Egnyte and other sync apps, on Windows and on a Mac. Network shares are shown but never changed. Companies stay apart: nothing links one company’s files to another’s, even on one computer.

Everything Files does can be undone.
